Souvenirs from Uozu
Souvenir/Shopping
What is something you can only get in Uozu?
When it comes to Uozu, "seafood" is the standard. Fresh and dried fish, dried fish, kombujime (kelp-dried fish), snow crab, fish cakes, and other souvenirs typical of Toyama are all available. In fact, fruit cultivation is also thriving in Uozu, and dark fruits ripened on the trees are popular as gifts.
While there are long-established Japanese-style confectionery stores, we also recommend the Western-style confectionery stores that have opened in recent years, which are attracting attention on social networking sites because they are not only visually appealing, but above all, delicious!
From a slightly different perspective, Uozu has long had a reputation for being dotted with select stores selling clothing and sundries. Why not take a tour of these unique stores and find a favorite item for yourself?
seafood
Uozu is an old port town with two large fishing ports where fresh seafood is landed daily. A peek into the fresh fish section of a supermarket in the city will surprise you with the variety of local products and their low prices!
Fresh fish, as well as dried fish and kelp-fish, can be purchased directly from processing and sales companies for less than the market price.
Many stores also ship nationwide and sell online.

Sushi & Kamaboko
Trout sushi and kamaboko, a specialty of Toyama Prefecture, make excellent souvenirs. There are many stores in the prefecture, and even in Uozu, you can find a variety of stores that offer the best sushi and fish cakes. Each store has its own unique characteristics, and it is fun to compare them.
Some stores can also sell the products online, so if you are far away from home, we highly recommend ordering them to your home!

sake and miso
Toyama is known for its delicious local sake! Word on the street is that the sake store has a wide selection and sometimes offers advice on purchases. Of course, you can also purchase "Hokuyo," a local sake from Uozu.
Also popular is the traditional handmade miso made with local ingredients and without additives. We hope you will try our miso soup made with delicious miso that has a natural sweetness from the abundant use of malt!

Confectionery and sweets
Each of the long-established Japanese confectionary stores, which have been in business for generations, offers a lineup of classic Uozu wagashi with an elaborate seasonal flavor. We also recommend the low-sweetness products made with Uozu fruits.

Uozu Lacquerware and Crafts
The origin of Uozu lacquerware is said to date back to the late Muromachi period (1333-1573), when a woodworker who made the base material for lacquerware came to Uozu from Hida. During the Taisho Period (1912-1926), the period of greatest prosperity, there were more than 300 lacquerware-related businesses, and it flourished as a major industry in Uozu at that time.
In recent years, the number of these products has decreased due to the Showa period and changing lifestyles, but the successors continue to carry on the fire of tradition by incorporating new approaches and techniques, such as products that can be enjoyed in daily life and products made in collaboration with different industries in the city, without putting out the fire. We also offer souvenirs that will become memories of your travels.

Clothing & Sundries
Although they are not exactly tourist souvenirs, they are dotted with unique and appealing stores. Some core fans come from afar just to visit these stores. There is a clothing store that is friends with a famous actor, and a "pearl corner" next to the aquarium that was noted by Bunshun Online as an "unusual souvenir shop. If the standard souvenirs are not enough for you, please take a look!

Fruit trees (apples, grapes, pears, peaches, blueberries)
Although not well known outside of the prefecture, Uozu is a thriving fruit-growing region. The most distinctive feature of Uozu's fruit is that it is harvested when the fruit is fully ripened on the tree and exposed to the sun, giving it a rich and juicy flavor that is more appealing than in other prefectures!
The sales method is based on "yard sales" in front of each farmer's house. The fun style of talking with the owner of the garden is somewhat heartwarming and conveys the good nature of the people of Uozu. In addition, a blueberry farm that appeared in Uozu in 2017 offers a picking experience as well as fresh fruit sales.
Information on farmers selling their products is available in the "Uozu Orchard Guide"!
When visiting the city for sightseeing, it is convenient to go to a souvenir store that sells souvenir items from the city!
